The Artist Baker, at 14-16 Cattano, in Morristown NJ, is located off the green, behind the Century 21 department store .
This American artisan bakery and cafe celebrates tradition. The Artist Baker is a collaboration between Andrea and Fran Davidson, her Mom.
Their inspirations comes from years of baking and cooking, professionally and at home. You will find chocolate chip cookies, tarts of the season,
scones served with homemade preserves and chicken pot pies. In addition, pastry chef and owner Andrea Lekberg offers custom celebration cakes.
These unique special occasion cakes are often the centerpiece to the party.
After graduating from The Art Institute of Chicago and
The Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago, Andrea moved to Sante Fe, New Mexico to work at The Coyote Cafe. This wonderful kitchen run by Mark Miller and
Mark Kiffin was a great beginning to a career. From there she worked at The Inn of the Anasazi before moving east to Durham, North Carolina. Durham,
like Sante Fe, was a town with great farmer’s markets. Andrea learned about the relationship between chefs and local farms and the importance of that relationship
in educating customers about seasonal food. From there, a move to Brooklyn to work at Sweet Melissa’s Patisserie. During her tenure there as pastry chef, they received
Best Pies and Tarts in New York from Zagats. Before opening her own shop, Andrea worked with Pichet Ong at his bakery Batch and studied with Biagio Settepani at
The French Pastry School in Chicago. In 2009, Andrea and her mom, Fran Davidson opened up The Artist Baker in Morristown, New Jersey. This year she started working
with The Urban Farm at Lafayette in Morristown and next year the shop will have a plot in the community garden. This fall Andrea designed Halloween Treats for
Dean and Deluca and is working with them on a line of cakes for the store. Andrea is currently working on a book with Dorothy Handelman about The Artist Baker.
Our products can now be found at Dean & Deluca
Pastry Chef Erica Leahy recently joined The Artist Baker. A graduate of Peter Kump’s New York Cooking School, Erica spent 9 years working in New York City kitchens
including Sweet Melissa’s Patisserie with Andrea, dba Bistro Modern, and was the pastry chef at CraftSteak and most recently as pastry chef at Craft.
Finally! An awesome bakery in town!
At long last...my dream has come true. Acharming bakery featuring the most gorgeous cupcakes, pear tarts, Earl Grey heart cookies, ginger snaps, scones, croissants, bread pudding (w/bourban sauce) etc. etc. that one can imagine and in Morristown, NJ. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are available to take out (or eat in). There are little ham sandwiches, beautiful quiche and chocolate souffle cakes and tarts. Gee whiz! Why did it take so long? Because it requires talent, wonderful ingredients and dedication. This place rocks...the next time you're in or near Century 21, go around the corner to 14 Cattano Ave. You'll be hooked.
A charming and delicious bakery
This bakery is by far the best bakery around. That is because they use fresh ingredients to make their savory food and desserts. The cupcakes are the best I've ever eaten, and I've tried the ones in NYC. The malted cream cheese cake is light and fluffy and full of flavor, most importantly. They also have chicken pot pies and a light light menu, which I have not tried yet, because I can't take my eyes off the desserts. By the way, we have tried the croissants with Nutella and plain ones - just what you expect in a mulit-layer melt in your mouth croissant. My Husband also loves the scones with orange zest. I am so happy there is a delicious bakery in Morristown that cares about what they make and bake. It is a lovely little cafe. Run, don't walk.
